James Barnes

James Barnes is the Director of Bands at Timber Creek High School. Prior to his appointment to Timber Creek, he served as the Director of Bands at Blythewood High School in South Carolina and most recently, Collierville High School in Tennessee.

Mr. Barnes attended the University of South Carolina, where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Music Education. He studied under conducting under Dr. Rebecca Philips.

Under his direction, the bands at Blythewood and Collierville received consistent superior ratings in Concert Band, Marching Band and Solo and Ensemble. In 2017, The Blythewood Wind Symphony was selected to perform at the South Carolina Music Educator’s Conference. This ensemble was also selected to be a featured ensemble at the University of South Carolina Honor Band Clinic. During his tenure at Collierville, the band program experience tremendous growth both in excellence and enrollment. His passion for every student gaining a great experience led to the implementation of a chamber music program.

Mr. Barnes has received the National Band Association Citation of Excellence for his contribution to Music Education twice and is a member of the National Association for Music Educators. Mr. Barnes served on the executive board for the Palmetto Concert Band from Columbia, SC. This ensemble has performed at the Midwest International Orchestra and Band Clinic in 1999, 2008 again in 2016.

Mr. Barnes and his fiance’ Lacey live in Keller with their two cats Cowboy and JJ.
